Gavin Morris is a proud Novocastrian whose voice and face have been welcomed into homes across Newcastle and regional NSW for more than 30 years. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s most respected weather communicators, he built a diverse media career that began in radio and spanned roles as a surf and snow reporter, sports reporter for ESPN, entertainment anchor for The Movie Network, and ultimately long-time weather presenter and co-anchor at NBN News. Over 16 years at NBN, Gavin became a steady and trusted presence during storms, heatwaves and bushfires, including coverage of the Black Saturday bushfires and the 2022 Lismore floods, delivering clear and potentially lifesaving information to regional audiences.

His passion for weather began as a teenager studying synoptic charts, driven by a love of surfing and a curiosity about the natural world. That interest took him around the globe, including a sailing voyage from Scotland to New York aboard a 100-year-old square rigger, shaping his understanding of climate, community and resilience. Since concluding his media career in late 2025 amid wider industry changes, Gavin has remained active in the community through public talks across the Hunter and Coalfields. A devoted father and partner, he now brings his experience, integrity and commitment to community connection to his campaign for Lord Mayor of Newcastle.
